Together with our generous donors, we are able to fund special initiatives and services that help our tiniest patients thrive and support the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of the families throughout their stay.

At Virtua Health, we are proud to be the trusted choice for maternity and newborn care, delivering 8,000+ babies a year — more than any other health system in our region. Our CHOP at Virtua Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Special Care Nursery teams offer advanced expertise in the complex care of babies born prematurely or with other illnesses, and they do so with great compassion and skill.

Our Level III NICU at Virtua Voorhees Hospital is a state-designated Regional Perinatal Center equipped to care for babies referred to us from area hospitals when a higher level of care is required. Virtua’s NICU team provides compassionate care and support to more than 900 infants and their families each year. For babies whose medical issues are less acute, our special care nurseries at Virtua Mount Holly Hospital and Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital provide the extra level of attention they need.

Together with our generous donors, we are able to fund special initiatives that support the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of the families in our care. With support from our generous donors—including former NICU families—in 2025 we expanded the NICU to include a dedicated Infant Nutrition Room to help our tiniest patients thrive. The new space provides a state-of-the-art environment for breast milk storage, processing, and preparation, with nutritionists and specially trained milk technicians tailoring milk to meet each baby’s unique needs.

Johnson Family Gives Back to Virtua’s NICU

Kaitlin and Wes Johnson spent 67 days visiting their son, “Little Wes,” in the NICU at Virtua Voorhees Hospital after he was born prematurely at 31 weeks. Grateful for the excellent care and support they received, the local family was inspired to give back to Virtua in honor of their extraordinary NICU team who so lovingly cared for their baby boy. The new parents decided to use their platform through their family farm, Johnson Locust Hall Farm, to support other patients served by Virtua’s NICU. They hosted a Christmas in July event for the community that not only raised funds but also helped build awareness of premature birth. By giving back to support other babies like theirs, the Johnsons are putting their gratitude into action and creating a lasting impact.

September 3, 2025 — Virtua Voorhees Hospital’s NICU has expanded with the addition of a dedicated Infant Nutrition Room designed to help our tiniest patients thrive. NICU Grads Return to Inspire Hope for Future Families

September 25, 2024 — Doctors, nurses, and dozens of local families convened at Virtua Voorhees Hospital during September’s National NICU Awareness Month as a portrait gallery of former NICU babies—now vibrant toddlers, kids, and teens—was unveiled for the first time. Located in the halls outside of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), this “Wall of Hope” includes 28 then-and-now photo sets and provides inspiration to the parents of today’s NICU residents.
