Dr. Campagnolo’s Journey

Advancing Family Medicine Education

An Enduring Commitment to Family Medicine

As a family physician and geriatrician with 40 years of experience, Mary Campagnolo, MD, MBA, understands deeply the vital role family medicine physicians play in the overall health of our community. Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Campagnolo has served as a physician leader, educator, and advocate — sharing her passion for family medicine while guiding future generations of doctors.

She joined Virtua Medical Group 18 years ago following her tenure as a partner at Ashurst Family Physicians. In the late 1980s, Dr. Campagnolo and her physician partners were among the first faculty for the Family Medicine Residency Program at what is known today as Virtua Mount Holly Hospital. She later served for many years as chair of the hospital’s Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Campagnolo has also given her time and talents as a long-standing trustee of the Virtua Health Foundation Board.

Establishing a New Fund for Resident Training

Demonstrating her commitment to family medicine, Dr. Campagnolo has pledged a generous philanthropic gift to establish the Dr. Mary Campagnolo Fund for Excellence in Family Medicine Education. This incredible gift will help advance Virtua’s Family Medicine Residency Program by providing financial support to enhance training and professional growth — continuing Dr. Campagnolo’s legacy of creating a healthier tomorrow for families in South Jersey.

The newly established fund will support family medicine education in the following ways:

  • Resident training to advance clinical skills, including courses in point-of-care ultrasound and critical care support.
  • Professional development, offering financial assistance for professional conferences and medical mission experiences.
  • Program enhancements, including specialty diagnostic equipment, simulation tools, and advanced learning platforms.
Pedaling for a Purpose to Grow Support

Now, Dr. Campagnolo is preparing for the next phase of her mission to support family medicine education. Beginning in March, she will embark on a 58-day cycling journey from San Diego to St. Augustine, with a group of women riders. During the cross-country trip, she will post about her experience and reflections on the road while inviting colleagues, friends, and fellow physicians to join in supporting the Dr. Mary Campagnolo Fund for Excellence in Family Medicine Education at Virtua.

“I believe wholeheartedly that the foundation of a healthy community begins with access to skilled and compassionate family medicine physicians. My hope is that this fund will bolster the experience for Virtua’s family medicine resident physicians and empower future leaders in advancing this comprehensive specialty for generations to come.”
