Virtua Health is transforming the way our most vulnerable community members access the resources they need through a simple solution: putting preventive services and support programs on wheels. Our Mobile Health and Cancer Screening Unit works in close partnership with Virtua’s growing mobile platform, which also boasts a grocery store, farmers market, food farmacy, and pediatric units.
In the spring of 2023, Virtua Health launched its Mobile Health & Cancer Screening Unit to reduce health disparities and ensure our community members have access to life-saving cancer screenings. Powered by philanthropy, this addition to our mobile community health platform will improve access to comprehensive health care for those we serve as well as bolster prevention and chronic disease management.
Together, we can create a healthier tomorrow!

About the Mobile Health and Cancer Screening Unit
Operating four days a week, the 40-foot Mobile Health and Cancer Screening Unit partners with local businesses, churches, community centers, and more, to host screening events. Through Virtua’s NJ CEED program, individuals who are uninsured or underinsured are eligible for free screenings. Additionally, if a patient is diagnosed with cancer, they will be quickly connected to our outstanding Penn Medicine | Virtua Health Cancer Program team for treatment.
The Mobile Health and Cancer Screening Unit team provides:
- 3D mammography

Our Supporters
Our Supporters
Virtua’s new Mobile Health and Cancer Screening Unit was made possible thanks to the support of our generous philanthropic partners.
As of March 2024, more than $1.7 million in donor support has gone toward the purchase of the vehicle, leading-edge 3D mammography system, exam room equipment, mobile health care technology, and a security system. Gifts from our philanthropic partners will also help us maintain and operate the vehicle, as well as ensure we have sufficient resources to reach all our community members in need.
We are pleased to recognize Aetna Better Health of New Jersey as our Lead Founding Partner. We are also grateful to several generous donors who have also joined us to support this initiative with a gift of $100,000 or more:
- AmeriHealth
- The Haines Family Foundation
- Ott’s Restaurants: Berlin • Washington Twp. • Medford
- Virtua Health Medical Staff South
- Virtua Health Memorial Auxiliary
We hope you will consider joining us in this exciting venture and help us save even more lives through early cancer detection!
Interested in hosting a screening event?
The mobile unit visits local businesses, places of worship, and community centers to provide convenient access to potentially life-saving screenings. Our team travels to locations in Camden County, Burlington County, and portions of Gloucester County. There is no fee to host the mobile unit.
If your company or group is interested in hosting, can recruit at least 20 individuals for screening, and provide an appropriate space, our team would love to connect. To ensure the best experience for everyone, there are some requirements for host locations.
Please click to review the requirements and submit an application. If you have questions, please call 856-247-7375.
