Transforming Care for the Future

New Marvin Samson Pavilion will Reimagine Lourdes

In 2025, we proudly commemorated the 75th anniversary of Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital while celebrating a transformative milestone in the campus’s history: the unveiling of plans for the new Marvin Samson Pavilion. Through the extraordinary generosity of philanthropist and longtime Virtua trustee Marvin Samson and his family, the Marvin Samson Foundation pledged an incredible $5 million gift to Virtua, supporting education and workforce development programs.

Currently under construction, the six-story pavilion will expand the hospital by 35% and provide an enhanced experience for patients and visitors. This new building will support the hospital’s complex services, including cardiovascular care, organ transplantation, and neurosciences in partnership with Penn Medicine.

Growing Community Health Programs

Eat Well Launches New Vehicles and Expanded Services

Virtua’s Eat Well program reached exciting new milestones in 2025, fueled by a $1.5 million investment from the State of New Jersey. In April, we introduced the new Eat Well Mobile Grocery Store which now includes a semi-private space for health screenings. Later in the year, we launched a second vehicle, expanding our brick-and-mortar Eat Well Food Farmacy into a mobile service to better meet the needs of our patients. In 2025, Virtua’s philanthropic partners invested more than $1 million in the Eat Well programs. Together, we are expanding access to healthy, affordable food and nutrition services to meet the growing needs of people in South Jersey.

Growing Community Health Programs

Cancer Screening Unit Reduces Barriers to Early Detection

Virtua’s Mobile Health and Cancer Screening Unit continued to serve as a vital resource for cancer screening, education, and prevention. In 2025, the program provided 3,353 screenings to local men and women, with mammograms increasing by 25% over the prior year, and 15 individuals diagnosed with cancer and referred for treatment. Notably, nearly half of all people served were uninsured and, without the support of our partners, may have gone without these life-saving services.

Growing Community Health Programs

Pediatric Mobile Services Reaches Milestone

Virtua’s Pediatric Mobile Services team is on the road five days a week with two vehicles, addressing the critical need for developmental screenings, as well as dental exams, lead testing, and other health services for local children. In 2025, this program served a record 13,279 children, with 26% of those screened being referred to additional services for follow-up care. Through philanthropy, we are helping area children and families access essential services, which are key to preventing more complex issues and ensuring a healthy future.

Enhancing Clinical Services Through Innovation

Philanthropy plays an essential role at Virtua in enhancing clinical service lines by funding advanced technologies, improving patient access, and supporting initiatives that meet the evolving needs of our patients. Here are a few of the ways generous gifts made an impact on clinical care in 2024:

  • New NICU Infant Nutrition Room Helps Our Tiniest Patients Thrive
    Virtua Voorhees Hospital’s NICU has added a dedicated Infant Nutrition Room, made possible by grateful families and donors, including the Krause Family/Scrub Daddy, Inc. The space supports the safe storage, preparation, and customization of breast milk, enhancing our team’s ability to provide optimal nutrition for each infant while supporting breastfeeding mothers.
  • Virtua Receives Nursing Innovation Fund for Intensive Care Pilot
    In 2025, Virtua received the prestigious 2025 Nursing Innovation Fund award from AARP and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. With this funding and support from Chris and Maggie Poyatt, we launched an ICU pilot initiative at Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, designed to advance critical care methods and improve outcomes for patients and staff alike.

Fostering Education & Clinical Training

Academic Scholarships Support Students and Nurses

Together with our donors, we are educating the next generation of nurses and building a care team equipped to meet our community’s needs—now and into the future. In 2025, more than $90,000 in academic scholarships supported 38 Virtua nurses and students at Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing. By easing the burden of tuition, these scholarships enable nurses and students to focus on their education, enriching their learning and ultimately enhancing patient care.

Fostering Education & Clinical Training

New Technology will Advance Simulated Training

The Simulation Center at Virtua’s Health & Wellness Center in Berlin will soon feature a state-of-the-art Anatomage Table, made possible by a generous $100,000 gift from the emergency medicine physicians at TeamHealth. This transformative tool enhances clinical training through digitized human cadavers, advanced learning applications, and realistic 3D anatomy experiences. Students enrolled in Virtua’s EMS (emergency medical services), medical assistant, and patient care technician programs will benefit from hands-on access to this technology, strengthening the future of emergency care.
