70 Paintings, One Powerful Impact: Physician-Artist Dr. James George Helps Transform Renovated Behavioral Health Units
Thanks to artist, philanthropist, and emergency medicine physician leader James E. George, MD, JD, Virtua’s patients now have a more colorful, uplifting environment for therapeutic treatment.
Dr. George gifted an incredible 70 pieces of original artwork to help us transform Virtua’s newly renovated behavioral health units for adults and children in Willingboro and Mount Holly. The beautiful, expressive paintings add warmth, inspiration, and moments of reflection throughout the spaces, supporting our patients emotional and mental well-being.
“It is my hope that these paintings will help create a calming atmosphere for patients, families, and staff by reducing stress and anxiety while promoting moments of reflection, comfort, and hope throughout the healing journey,” said Dr. George.
One recent patient let our staff know how much the artwork supported their treatment, sharing:
“I have such anxiety and I have been spending time just sitting and looking at the beautiful colors. Honestly, they have helped reduce my anxiety. How nice that they were donated to the unit!”
Dr. George’s passion for the healing arts began during his recovery from a life-altering brain and spinal cord injury. Over the years, Dr. George and the George Family Foundation have supported many programs and initiatives at Virtua and across South Jersey.
He recently helped to establish the George Family Center for Healing Arts at Rowan University. In 2024, Virtua Health honored him with the organization’s Humanitarian of the Year Award for his remarkable contributions to improving the health and well-being of our community.
